Gamblers Anonymous: How It Works

Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a free fellowship of people who share their experience and support each other in stopping gambling. It has helped many thousands of people, and it costs nothing to attend.

What happens at a meeting

Meetings are informal and confidential. Members share their stories and what’s working for them; you’re welcome to just listen. There’s no obligation to speak, no fees, and no judgment. Many people find enormous relief simply in being around others who understand exactly what they’ve been through.

The approach

GA is based on a recovery program of mutual support and personal honesty, similar in spirit to other anonymous fellowships. It can stand on its own or work alongside professional treatment — many people do both.

How to find a meeting

Use the official meeting finder at gamblersanonymous.org to search for in-person meetings, or join one of the phone and online meetings available throughout the week. If you’d like help finding the right meeting, 1-800-GAMBLER can guide you.
